About the award
For all local children
All children attending primary schools in the Woollahra Council catchment are invited to participate in the inaugural year of The Matthew Jones Art Award: Children's Art Sydney. The competition is arranged through the schools, so students cannot enter the competition directly. Schools must register their intent to participate by the end of September, 2009.
Imagination takes flight
"What is at the end of your rainbow?" That is the theme for the 2009 award. Each school can enter up to six A3 sized artworks. There are four categories,
three by age and one for children with disabilities. Choose your best entries in
each appropriate category and then select two more. Please use
cartridge paper
for your entries.
Exciting prizes
All children whose work is selected by their school to participate in the Award and exhibition will receive a 2009 participation certificate. Each of the four categories will have a first or second prize winner decided by a judging panel. Every winner will receive a special arts-based prize package. The schools of the winning entries will receive $1,000, to be donated for use for their arts or disability programmes. The second prize winners' schools will receive $500.
Remembering Matthew Jones
The Matthew Jones Art Award: Children's Art Sydney is named in memory of Matthew Jones, the son of Di Jones and Bill Jones who, after being born with severe disabilities, passed away, aged 34 in 2008. The award celebrates Matthew’s life and his participation in a range of art as therapy programmes at The Warrah Society in Dural.
Simply enjoying children’s art
Di Jones Real Estate, the organisers of The Matthew Jones Award: Children's Art Sydney wishes to acknowledge through this community Award that the execution or an appreciation of art can simply make us happy, no matter how old, young or able bodied we are.
